Everybody goes through tough times. It’s just the manner of dealing with it that makes all the difference. While some would rather go party their hearts out, others would choose to find a tranquil place where they could have a clearer perspective on whatever is bothering them.
It’s a good thing the Philippines is home to over 7,100 islands, which means that there are so many places where anyone can do a little soul-searching when the going gets tough.
Sagada, Mountain Province
It’s definitely a long way from Manila, the country’s capital. But that’s just part of the journey towards healing and enlightenment. The moment you catch a glimpse of Sagada, you know that the entire trip was worth it.
Seeing a blanket of clouds covering the rest of the world, it’s the perfect place for you to pick a quiet spot where you can cry your soul out. You can even try screaming your frustration away on top of those mountains, or explore any of the caves crawling within them as you try to make sense of whatever is going on in your life.
Batanes is the least populated province in the country, which could explain why the ambience here is calmer and quieter. Add to that the breathtaking views all over the island, and you have the perfect atmosphere where you can just be alone with your thoughts and find the peace of mind that you have been looking for.
Bantayan Island, Cebu
Aside from the mountains, the beach can also be very soothing for those with troubled minds, and being the archipelago that it is, the Philippines has a number of shores that have become witness to quiet tears being shed by it visitors.
Bantayan Island is one such place, a quiet little place at the northern part of Cebu. It also has the same clean shores that other Philippine beaches have, but without the noisy, partying crowds.
Mahogany Forest, Bohol
If you’re a huge Lord of the Rings fan, then you would probably find this man-made forest even more magical. Yes, Bohol is one of the prime tourist spots in the country. Despite that fact, the 2-kilometer forest gives you this eerie feeling that no one else exists around you. And for those who have a lot to think about, that sense of loneliness can be the perfect way to echo how they feel.
Bellarocca Island, Marinduque
Bellarocca Island will remind you of Santorini, which makes the place even more perfect for those days when you just want to do nothing other than think and let the hours go by without doing anything. You even have caves running all over the island, the perfect way to do something else should you get tired of lounging around in your room or chilling out by the pool. It is a bit expensive compared to other places though, but sometimes, setting your heavy heart free does come with a price.
Calaguas Islands, Camarines Norte
If your idea of soul-searching involves a tent by the beach, then the Calaguas Islands are your best bet. Just like Bantayan Island, Calaguas has the same powder white sand that Boracay is known for, but none of the rowdy crowds. Not all the islands have resorts where you can check into either, so it’s definitely peace and quiet all the way. Who knows, you may even find some interesting company in the assortment of backpackers who enjoy camping out here every so often.
Mount Apo, Davao City
Mount Apo is the Philippines’ tallest mountain, located in beautiful Davao. With Its majestic 9,000-ft elevation, you can just imagine how truly amazing the views are, regardless of whether you’re looking at it from afar, or looking at the land around you from its peak.
Palaui Island, Cagayan
Palaui Island is so remote that the coral here remains undisturbed for the most part. You have amazing marine life, waterfalls, forests, and so much more to explore, helping you find the brighter side of life no matter what you may be going through.
Sambawan Island, Biliran
Where some of the other places mentioned on this list may be familiar, this is one place that a lot of people may not have heard of just yet. And I guess that’s what makes this place truly amazing. Aside from the amazing mix of stone and sand, the entire island actually splits into three once the tide comes in.
Apo Island, Negros Oriental
If you’re looking for a place where you don’t just get to experience the amazing scenery above the water, but the great view beneath it as well, then Apo Island is a must-have on your list. A marine reserve, you can take your soul-searching below its water’s depths as you enjoy more than 650 fish species and over 450 species of corals.
With places like these all over the Philippines, who’s going to run out of places to run to whenever the odds aren’t going your way? These do not even cover half or a quarter of the other places where you can go soul-searching. For sure, there are a number of other places just waiting to be discovered by the next lonely and heartbroken soul.
