Compared to the other noted schools in the country, the University of South Australia or UniSA is relatively new. UniSA was formed only in 1991 (yikes, it’s even younger than me), but the formidable educational institutions behind it, such as the South Australian Institute of Technology and the Colleges of Advanced Education, gave it considerable clout from the get-go.

 

The university was formed with the mission to “preserve, extend, and disseminate knowledge through teaching, research, scholarship, and consultancy, and to provide educational programs that will enhance the diverse cultural life of the wider community.” Given how UniSA ranks among the world’s top universities and how it made last year’s list of the world’s top 50 under 50 universities, they are certainly succeeding.

 

And the good news is, Aussie students aren’t the only ones eligible to study here. About 2,500 students benefit from the university’s scholarships and grants, and a good percentage of them are high achievers from developing countries.

 

So, if you did well in school and are interested in taking up any of the varied courses on offer at UniSa, you might want to think about applying for any of the sponsorships that are open to international students:

1. Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship.

Those who qualify for this scholarship will only pay for half of their tuition fees for up to four years of full-time study. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students who aren’t Australian citizens or permanent residents may apply for the 20 slots available for the 2017 school year.

 

The criteria for this scholarship are as follows:

 

a.) Prospect of becoming an international student at UniSA;

b.) Eligibility for studying in Australia;

c.) The UniSA equivalent of a high distinction average in previous studies;

d.) Completion of the normal program admission requirements of the program applied to;

e.)  Completion of the minimum English language entry requirements of the program  applied to;

f.) Non-acceptance of any other UniSA scholarship or bursary;

2. International Merit Scholarship.

 

International Merit Scholarship 5 Sponsorships You Can Avail of at the University of South Australia

 

If you were unsuccessful in applying for the previous scholarship, you’re automatically considered for this one. This will entitle you to a 25% reduction on your first year’s tuition fees, provided that you’ll be taking up a maximum of two (2) courses or eight (8) semesters during that time.

 

The criteria for this scholarship are as follows:

a.) Prospect of becoming an international student at UniSA;

b.) Eligibility for studying in Australia;

c.) The UniSA equivalent of a high distinction average in previous studies;

d.) Completion of the normal program admission requirements of the program applied to;

e.)  Completion of the minimum English language entry requirements of the program  applied to;

f.) Non-acceptance of any other UniSA scholarship or bursary;

g.) Acceptance into an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at UniSA that’s eligible for the scholarship;

3. Australia Government Scholarships.

Also known as the Australia Awards, this particular grant aims to add diversity to the campuses by giving the next generation of leaders from all over the world the opportunity to study in and contribute to UniSA’s vibrant learning environment.

 

Since the government is the one funding this scholarship, the benefits for its recipients are numerous: full tuition fee coverage for the minimum period necessary for the student to complete the selected academic program, fieldwork allowance for research students, return air travel ticket, and overseas Student Health Cover throughout the scholarship, to name a few.

 

For applicants from the Philippines, the courses that make you eligible for this scholarship are those in local economic development, infrastructure, trade and economics, governance, peace and development, basic education, human resource management and development, foreign relations, and mining or mining-related fields.

4. Endeavour Awards.

Also supported by the Australian Government, the Endeavour Awards are a merit-based scholarship program that allow citizens from participating countries like the Philippines to study and do research Down Under.

 

Endeavour Award recipients will receive travel insurance and a travel allowance of up to AU$4,500, a monthly stipend of AU$3,000, health insurance throughout the entire scholarship period,  and an establishment allowance of up to AU$4,000.

 

Most importantly, Endeavour awardees will receive tuition fees paid up to the maximum study or research duration on a pro-rata basis.

5. International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS).

Ever wanted to take up postgraduate studies abroad but anxious about how much it would cost? The IPRS, then, could be the answer to your prayers.

 

This scholarship gives you full tuition fee coverage, single-cover overseas health cover (OSHC), a thesis allowance of up to AU$840 for doctorate students and AU$420 for masters by research students. Eligibility is fairly straightforward: you need to meet both the entry requirements and the English language proficiency requirements for the postgraduate program you’re applying for (e.g., Doctor of Philosophy or Masters by Research).
