Today – the market on the shores of Lake Caribbean – has grown into one of the largest markets in Victoria with more than 1500 stall sites occupying a 5770 sq meter pavilion throughout the year.

 There are permanent stallholders, but those people wanting to rent a stall on a casual basis can turn up on the day and hire a stall. The market offers a huge variety of goods ranging from clothing, fresh produce, lollies, plants, art and crafts, household goods, tools, prints, shoes, toys, giftware and bric-a-brac. Plus our new and exciting Computer Swap Meet Market operating every Sunday.

 The Gardens cover an area of approximately 100 acres surrounding the beautiful Lake Caribbean. Throughout the picnic grounds are BBQ’s and plenty of picnic tables under the share of beautiful elms, gums and pine trees.

 From Boxing Day 2011 to Anzac Day 2012, the Frankston Waterfront will again be transformed as our team of talented artists create giant sand sculptures depicting toys from years gone by through to the technological marvels that pass for playthings today!

 Integrated with the sand sculptures will be our regular activities to keep the whole family entertained. Why not try your hand at carving in the Sand Workshop area, or enjoy a talk conducted by our resident sculptor.  Herring Island Summer Arts Festival 300x225 Events to look forward in MelbourneVisiting the island is an adventure in itself in that access is across the Yarra River – most comfortably using Parks Victoria’s punt service. There is a AUD2/adult charge for the punt. The gallery is open and the punt operating only on weekends, Australia Day, Labour Day, Easter Monday and Anzac Day. There is coffee available at the cafe near Como landing. The landing is adjacent to the Capital City bike trail and some cycle parking is available near the landing.

 This followed on from the work of Maudie Palmer who, as curator of the Herring Island Environmental Sculpture Park, established the permanent collection of art works on the island and ran art exhibitions in the renovated scout hall.

 In 2011 the exhibiting groups are the Association of Sculptors of Victoria, Ceramics Victoria, the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria Inc., the Photography Studies College (Melbourne) and the Basketmakers of Victoria.

 There will also be a special program of events on Australia Day including a tour of the island and its permanent collection run by the Friends of Herring Island and arts demonstrations in the gallery courtyard.

Midsumma Festival

 “Midsumma enhances the sense of a ‘queer community’ in Melbourne, strengthens the sense of identity, and deepens the sense of belonging within our community, which in turn makes the community more resilient” says Adam Lowe, General Manager of Midsumma.

 “By showcasing queer culture to the broader community, it helps destigmatise the queer community and reduce levels of marginalisation” Adam says.

 Lisa Watts, Chairperson of Midsumma adds “The festival also provides a supportive forum for queer youth, by giving them a sense of belonging and overcome the sense of isolation they can feel”.

 Midsumma attracts over 100,000 people from Melbourne and interstate. making it a significant tourist and cultural contributor to Melbourne’s economy.

 The festival opens with Carnival, Midsumma’s single largest event, and features food, entertainment and activities.
