More and more of our Filipino brethren fly to foreign countries for the promise of a better life. The lack of income opportunities at home forces them to gamble their livelihood on far-off lands.
And sometimes, this promise of a better life leads to their ruin. Unscrupulous agencies scam our modern day heroes to jobs different to what they applied for. Or worse, they are sent to employers who torture them like animals.
In line with this, the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) with the International Labor Organizations (ILO) launched the website Migrant Recruitment Advisor.
This website allows the OFWs to write reviews for their recruiters and agencies. Pretty much, a one-stop shop for your foreign job hunting needs. They are also encouraged to express their experiences with the recruitment process. The OFW rate the following:
Conditions in the Country of Destination
This helps future OFWs to check the legitimacy of the agency because only those accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administrations (POE) can be listed on the website.
To add, the website will only promote recruiters who adhere to the ILO General Principles and Operational Guidelines for Fair Recruitment.
So for those seeking a job abroad, they can check a list of legitimate agencies they can apply to. Also, the info as to their address, contact number, and email address are listed on their profiles for easy communication.
Moreover, the platform has links to the laws and policies in our country so that the applicants will know their rights. And it also provides a third-party feedback to the respective government agencies to help monitor erring recruiters.
The platform is also available for recruitment agencies situated in the Philippines, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and many more.
