Are You Stressed Out? Loving Kindness Meditation Might Help You, Says Scientists

Is life taking its toll on you? Problems are overwhelming you left and right. It may be about money, relationships, or the future. When you’re about to give up, don’t. Sometimes, detaching yourself momentarily may be a solution. And practicing Loving Kindness Meditation might help you get thru the pain of the daily grind.

Loving Kindness Meditation is a kind of meditation that gives a deeper appreciation of yourself and the world around you. It does this by directing wishes of goodwill to other people while meditating.

With our happiness spiraled down because of the hedonic treadmill, Loving Kindness meditation can provide inner peace and relaxation that can ultimately lead to happiness.

Mantra Madness?!

Sounds too good to be true? Is this some kind of incantation to contact the ethereal other side? Not at all. Science confirms its validity.

A study by Fredrickson BL & et.al titled: “Open hearts build lives: positive emotions, induced through loving-kindness meditation, build consequential personal resources” found out that those who practice this meditation increased their positive emotions.

This increase in positive emotions increased mindfulness, purpose in life, life satisfaction, and decreased symptoms of depression. For what it’s worth, even scientists themselves practice it today. After all, kind people are generally more satisfied with their relationships and with their lives.

And this practice makes us happier and more resilient. A scarce feeling in this new age.

Now that we put aside the elephant in the room, how do you harness these benefits? Loving Kindness Meditation just takes 15 minutes a day to complete.

Let us start with your body position. Sit down comfortably either cross-legged or on a chair. Have your spine straight and close your eyes. You can accompany your meditation with meditative music or without. It depends on your preference.

Next, direct this words to yourself silently. Say to yourself:

May I be Well

May I be Happy

May I be Peaceful

May I be Loved

Allow the feelings to freely flow through your body. And say it one more time.

May I be Well

May I be Happy

May I be Peaceful

May I be Loved

Afterward, think of a family member, a loved one, or a friend. Imagine them to be with you. Say their name and feel their presence. Direct Love and Kindness to this person.

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

Let the feeling flow from you to them. Repeat one more time.

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

Now, think of a people you have neutral feelings to. They can be an acquaintance, a neighbor, or a workmate.

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

Visualize the transfer of good vibes from you to them. Repeat again.

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

Now for the hard part. Think of someone you are experiencing conflict with. This can be people you hate the most.

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

This might be uncomfortable at first. Just let it be. This may lead you to forgive, understand, and accept. Feel the joy. Repeat:

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

Now visualize the person you are close with, the person you are neutral with, and the person you have difficulty with. Imagine loving, kindness, peace, and happiness.

May You be Well

May You be Happy

May You be Peaceful

May You be Loved

If you’re ready, open your eyes and feel the relief from the meditation.

Let us now get up and shower the world with positivity!
